Eric Burdon, fascinado por la contracultura estadounidense, la psicodelia y el movimiento hippie- flower-power, las proclamas antibelicistas con el Vietnam de fondo, las alocuciones sociales y las ansias de experimentación sónica, se aleja de sus primeros sonidos R&B para crear un brillante LP de acid rock con reminiscencias de The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane o The Doors. Después de la ruptura de los “Animals” originales con quienes compartió éxitos como “The House Of The Rising Sun”, “Don’t let me be misunderstood” y “Don’t bring me down” por mencionar solo algunos, Burdon reformó la banda con otros integrantes. Cambia su residencia, abandonando Londres por San Francisco, y acompañado por unos “nuevos Animals”, que incluían al guitarrista Vic Briggs, al violinista y guitarra John Weider, al bajista Danny McCullouch y al batería Barry Jenkins, graba el LP "Winds of Change" (1967), título significativo de su motivación en este viraje musical. Esta formación se mantuvo de 1966 a 1969. Los temas más representativos de esta alineación son “Monterey”, “San Franciscan Nights”, “Good times”, “Anything”, “Winds of change” (1967) y “Sky Pilot” (1968).

While both of MGM's commercial LP releases in the USA (SE-4484 and E-4484) and the Special Disk Jockey version (issued in the USA by MGM and also carrying the catalogue number E-4484) featured gatefold covers with inner notes by Eric Burdon, Kojak's copy of this LP is numbered SE-4484 and has "manufactured and distributed i n Australia under licenece" printed on the back of the album sleave. ASpecial Disk Jockey Record version of the LP was also released in USA under the catalogue number E-4484.
