A principios de los 70, antes de que explotara el punk, surgió en Inglaterra una escena llamada pub rock:
Bandas tocaban en pubs pequeños
Sonido crudo, directo y sin adornos
Reacción contra el rock progresivo y glam, que se habían vuelto muy teatrales y complejos
Dr. Feelgood fue una de las bandas más importantes de este movimiento.
Aunque no eran punk, su actitud, velocidad y crudeza influyeron mucho en el punk británico:
Bandas como The Clash o Sex Pistols reconocieron su influencia
Mostraron que se podía hacer rock potente sin virtuosismo excesivo
